Lucia Eames x Crate & Barrel

Lucia Eames x Crate & Barrel

The holidays are always a great opportunity to freshen up your decor. While there’s nothing wrong with “seasonal” accents, I love finding holiday intended pieces that could ideally be displayed year-round.

The latest collaboration from Crate and Barrel with Lucia Eames has a lot of pieces that fit that description. Lucia was the daughter of Charles Eames and step-daughter of Ray Eames, his second wife. Lucia is primarily known for heading the Eames Office, which maintained the Eames design legacy, until her passing in 2014.

I love this quote from Lucia in regards to the Eames legacy:
“Preservation is great, but if you’re not doing something that contributes to the future, if you’re only looking backward, then you’re not honoring the ideas behind the house. The items, the furniture, the films—those are all great—but even more marvelous was Charles and Ray’s approach, how they worked.” (via)

What many people might not know is she actually grew up to be an extraordinary artist in her own right.

There was a beautiful exhibition of Lucia’s work at the recent Milan Design Week.

The theme for the Milan exhibition was “Seeing with the Heart,” which reflected her belief that to really “see”, using your eyes was not enough. This sentiment was also carried on in this holiday collection through the recurring eye and heart motifs.

Crate and Barrel pulled from Lucia’s archives of sketches and glyphs as the basis for the pieces. This holiday collection is intended to be the first of several, so we should be seeing more pieces inspired by Lucia’s work soon! (via)

I love the use of black and white with the pops of red. Her organic, playful shapes, make the pieces timeless and a great addition to any home. Which pieces would you pick?
