Striped Pumpkins

Striped Pumpkins

I was looking back at some of the past pumpkin adventures that I’ve had over the years on the blog (see them all here). I find it interesting that whatever is happening in the world at the time has definitely affected the concept/direction I decide to do. All the crazy and horrific events happening in the world right now have made me just want to create something simple, orderly, and in pretty joyful colors. So, this year that means Stripes!

It was pretty easy to find more inspiration. Bold stripes are classic. Recently, I have been loving the combinations that brands like Dusen Dusen or Baggu have used on their products.

I decided to recycle a bunch of the old fake pumpkins from past projects. I first primed and then spray painted the base coat. I debated between painting the contrast stripe or hand painting them with a brush. In the end I did both.

Peeling masking tape is always so satisfying!
I’ve found that an angled brush gives you the best control, especially when doing stripes.

For the larger pumpkins, it was easier to just mask and spray the second coat. I think it also helps if the base coat is matte, versus glossy, to help prevent the masking tape from pulling the paint off.

For the smaller pumpkins, simple craft acrylic paint and an angles paint brush worked well.

This was probably one of the easier projects because the hardest part is really just deciding what color combinations you want to do! What’s also nice is I can keep these up through Thanksgiving as well.

Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween!
