The Jungalow Luggage Collection

The Jungalow Luggage Collection

I was walking through Target recently (no surprise there, lol) and while passing the travel section, my eyes immediately gravitated to this set of beautiful teal green luggage. I went to investigate closer and to my delight, I found out they were by The Jungalow! I posted it to my Instagram story and turns out my Target had put them onto the shelves a little early as the official release wasn’t until the following week.

Well, it’s official now! And I’m so excited to share this collection with you. There are so many fun thoughtful details that Justina has included in each piece! I asked Justina for a little inside scoop on her inspiration and motivation for the collection:

What inspired the collection? “My grandma Bette was a travel agent and orchestrated trips all over the world for our family since I was a baby. Even as a little girl I understood how special it was to get on a big flying machine and go to the other side of the earth, to see how other people live, work, talk, eat, share and have fun–not to mention see all of the natural beauty different parts of the world have to offer. These trips fueled my imagination and provided me with endless inspiration and teachings…”

“This travel collection is everything I wished I always had on any of those many trips — as a child, as a 20-something year old with wanderlust, and now as a mom. The suitcases are lightweight, easily recognizable and very smooth to roll and navigate around with. There is a foldable backpack (that can’t easily be opened when on your back) for impromptu beach trips or trips to a favorite flea market. When I travel I tend to wear really basic clothing and dress it up with accessories when need be, so we included a place to keep your jewelry from getting mottled. I once had my passport stolen out of a pocket on a crowded bus so this collection includes a travel wallet that fits a passport that can stay safely tucked away in the travel backpack. The travel pillow was designed to be used in numerous ways…I would have loved to have had it when my little one was breast-feeding because we could have used it as a travel breast-feeding pillow! I designed all of the motifs on the luggage to symbolize good vibes and protection. The hamsa motif takes inspiration from the Hamsa, or Hand of Fatima, an ancient symbol believed to ward off the evil eye and to protect. The Aja leaf print is inspired by Yoruba mythology: Aja is a patron of the forest and the animals. The exuberant motif pays homage to the protective nature of plants. The Ayo sun print is my signature print that symbolizes joy.  Even the tassels represent protection, as in many cultures, tassels are added to clothing and to the home to ward off evil spirits–plus, they’re just so fun, huh? Every detail in this collection, from the decorative elements to the functional elements have been thoughtfully designed to bring folks protection, good vibes and joy while on the road.”

“Designing this collection for the Target guest has been also such an honor — knowing that this collection with be available to all at an accessible price point was extremely important to me. I believe that travel fosters interpersonal understanding, and encouraging folks to get outside of their comfort zones and fly across the world and get to know people from different places is, in my mind, the best way to foster empathy.”
