TGIF Video Break : December 2017

TGIF! Well, I guess if you’ve been on holiday break, every day sort of has been feeling like a friday (or saturday…or sunday…) and I’m kind of at that point where you don’t even know what day it is anymore? But, alas, it is officially the last Friday of 2017. There’s been a few videos and songs of late that have been on constant rotation, and I just wanted to share a few of my favs to ring in the new year.

1) “RAINGURL” by Yaeji
The minute I heard this song I was immediately like- who is this?! And then I looked her up and now officially OBSESSED. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the phat beats and her delivery, maybe because she’s a fellow Asian American, maybe it’s because she’s wearing glasses and just does her own thing, but she’s just too kool for skool. I feel a weird immediate connection with her. This video is all smokey neon amazingness and I can’t wait to see what she does next! More on Yaeji here and her music here.

2) “Strangers” by Sigrid
Another fresh face on the music scene is Sigrid. She’s from Norway, and this song has great synth pop grooves, but this video also has some incredible set design/decor action happening.

3) “It’s Not About You” by Haiku Hands
This song is a great for a pick-me up / monday motivation / lets kick a** type of thing. This collective of girls from Australia look like they’re having a blast and I love the use of mirrors throughout this video. (It also reminded me of this somewhat obscure 80s rap song from the Wee Papa Girl Rappers) So much fun. More on Haiku Hands here.

4) “New York” by St. Vincent
All of St. Vincent’s visuals for her current era have been so on point. However, the video for her song “New York”, directed by Alex de Corte, really stands out. The colors… the compositions… striking and stunning.
