Living Room update 2017: Article Sofa

January is usually a time to make “resolutions” and set goals for the new year. But then, next thing you know, it’s July and… nothing has changed? so… I’d like a do-over please? (who’s with me?! lol) Conveniently, my birthday recently passed and I think that turning another year older marks a good enough occasion to re-evaluate things and make some new goals for this next chapter in life. It’s time to make some changes!

I’m a firm believer that your environment can directly influence your mood and consequently, everything else in your life. My living room, second to my bedroom, is probably the room I spend the most time in. Eating, tv watching, entertaining, working… (and sometimes sleeping!) all happen there. I’m not really one that constantly feels the need to “redo” a room. I’m more of a slow evolution person when it comes to my own home décor. But since I’ve been feeling the need for a change, I figured the living room would be the best to start. I’ve had my couch for well over 10 years, and while it’s still in great condition, I just feel it’s time for a different look. I figured getting a new couch could be a great way to start a refresh. (btw, if anyone is local and interested in my old couch- hit me up! I’ll give ya great deal!)

A LOT has changed in 10 years. For starters, shopping alone is a whole new world. 10 years ago, if you wanted to buy a sofa, you’d have to go to different showrooms, try out different options, then make a decision and hope for the best. Today, you can test drive everything from eyeglasses to mattresses, and you don’t have to leave your home! You can order something from anywhere with the simple swipe of a smart phone!

And this is where Article (formerly known as Bryght) comes in. Article is here to change the way you shop for furniture. They’re basically similar to what Warby Parker does for eyeglasses, or Leesa or Casper for mattresses. By simplifying and cutting out many unnecessary layers, they can offer super affordable pieces without sacrificing style or quality.

I have to admit, choosing a sofa without actually seeing it was a little intimidating. However, Article offers a 30 day no questions asked guarantee which helped ease any fears.

So with any trepidations set aside, I could jump into the fun part… SHOPPING!

Actually, that was the hardest part. Article has SOOO many styles of sofas, many of which could have worked in my space.

But before we jump into that, let’s take a step back and see where we were before. For the longest time, my living room has essentially looked like this:

I actually really like where everything is placed, and functionally, I feel it’s the best solution, so really, I just wanted to swap the old for something new.

My first two choices were the Sven and the Anton. There was a part of me that also really liked the idea of a sectional, like the Cube, and I was loving the “quartz rose” color of the Emil. but after measuring things out, I just wouldn’t have the room.

Ultimately I went for the Anton.

Before actually placing an order, I asked the Article customer service if it was possible to get some fabric swatches so I could see what the actual material and hues would be. They quickly sent out some swatches and I decided on Arizona Turquoise.

After that, the ordering was pretty simple. Add to cart. Boom! About a week later, omg.
I have a new sofa!!

And… I LOVE IT. It’s got a mid century flair but simple and clean enough to not feel too “retro.” The rich turquoise color was just the jolt my space needed. I’ve been feeling a bit more minimal these days, so I opted for just one simple accent pillow and a tonal throw to complete the look.

Seriously, it couldn’t have easier! The best part was I didn’t have to deal with any annoying sales people or a 6-8 week lead time for delivery! By the way, Article also has more than just sofas. They also offer chairs, rugs, tables, and other decor, including lighting and accents!

With a new sofa in place, it totally has set a new tone and is inspiring me to continue with giving the rest of my living room a major refresh.

Stay tuned to see what’s next! …
