more importantly…

Ok, yes- this house has impeccable style, drool worthy colors, and is simply gorgeous- but really… what it all boils down to… they have a freaking awesome Star Wars Imperial Shuttle in the middle of everything!

‘Nuff said.

mundane aesthetic: May week end

I hope everyone had a great weekend (and for all you hot mammas, a wonderful Mother’s Day!) Here’s a few snaps I took last week via Instagram (find me @happymundane)- Lots of beautiful sun, yummy vietnamese bun, driving up and down PCH, checking out the marina area near Seaport Village in downtown SD, all with my trusty pal Pepé in tow. And have you had the new Lemon and Triple Ginger Snap ice cream at Trader Joes? O.M.G. OBSESSED! SOOOOO GOOD! Run. don’t walk. now. Anyway- wishing you all a productive week. It’s only 4 more days til it’s Friday again!

shop spot: dansk torq ashwood serveware and silhuet dinnerware

Spotted this display at Bloomingdales over the weekend and was loving the combination of the wood and white ceramic plates with blue floral design. Both are from Dansk. The wood bowls are part of the Torq Ashwood collection (love the extra thick edges), and the dinnerware is Silhuet. Sophisticated, modern, and the watercolor-y blue floral design has a coastal flair… (and they’re on sale!)

sagaform fix

White + wood. Classic yet modern. It’s also the basis for the “fix” collection designed by Julia Treutiger for Sagaform. Love the herb pot and serving bowl (which comes with a lid that can double as a stand and even a cutting board.)

You can find Sagaform Fix pieces here and here.

mundane aesthetic: May days

Ever since returning from the last trip a few weeks ago, there’s been a whirlwind of activity. Consequently, I haven’t been able to blog as much (boo…),  however, I’m finding I’m Instagram-ing a ton more. Aside from the addictive quality, Instagram really is tailor built for the “mundane aesthetic”- so I guess it’s a natural fit. If you’re on it- follow me there  (username: @happymundane) as well as twitter (also @happymundane). If you’re not, you can also check out my latest pics via the little widget on the bottom right of this page. Btw, if you click on it, a window will pop up that will show the last few shots. If you’re not on Instagram, (WHY  NOT?!! lol j/k) here’s a few of my favorite moments from over the past few days.

mundane aesthetic: island moments

ALoha! I’m sad to say, it’s my last day of my little “Pintermission”, but I’m hoping to take in as much fun in the sun while I can. Thanks to everyone that’s been following on Instagram (@happymundane) and Twitter. Here’s a few recaps of some of my favorite moments from the past week (see y’all back on wednesday!):

i’m taking a “pintermission”

April is unexpectedly becoming a big travel month for me (you may recall I just got back from a fun trip to Arizona last week.) Well, on my way home, I received a very interesting email from the cool folks at Honda (the car peeps.) Now y’all know I’m addicted to Pinterest- apparently so much so, that I recently made Mashable’s list of top ten most followed men on Pinterest (along with fellow blog pal, Will).

Anyway, back to Honda. So Honda’s latest campaign for their new CR-V is all about the “Leap List.” Basically, they’re encouraging you to make a list of things you want to do, then get outside (what? the sun? huh?) and Do It (and I suppose Honda would like you to kindly consider a CR-V to help you do that!)

Pinterest basically acts as sort of a visual way of making that type of “list”- you pin things you want to do, or make, or dream of, get inspired by, etc… So Honda challenged me, along with a few other Pinners, to have a “Pintermission.” Take a full day off from “pinning” on the computer (yes, hands up and step away) and go out and do something/anything that I’ve pinned. The best part is, they are willing to sponsor it by giving me $500.

So, I’m like… um….. OKAY??!!! YES PLEASE!

What would I do if given $500 to do something I’d pinned about you might ask? Well … If you’ve followed this blog for awhile, you can probably guess… GO BACK TO HAWAII?!!…. like… NOW. duh?

So that’s what I’m doing (woo hoo!) Got me a quick last minute deal, cashed in some miles and points and I’m off to da islands! Unfortunately Honda is not giving me a CR-V, but I think I’ll get over it… (while sipping my mai tai…)

As part of the deal, I will be pinning what I do to this designated board they set up on Pinterest.

BUT!! I want you to come with me! (well, at least virtually) so please also follow me and my island shenanigans (like last time) on Instagram (@happymundane) and Twitter. I’ll still be posting here, but it might be sporadic since I may (or may not) be frequently found on the beach… sipping mai tais…(did I say that already?) See you soon. Aloha!

mundane aesthetic: notes from the road

Thanks to everyone that followed my recent road trip via instagram and twitter (@happymundane for both). For any of you that missed it, here’s some of my fav pics.

i’ll go if you go

Browsing through my local surf shop this weekend, I spotted a little stack of these booklet/zines on the way out. It was created by Billabong Girls and Foam magazine and called “I’ll go if you go.” I loved the fun, bright colorful graphics and interesting profiles.

Check out the full book online here.

on the road

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on a proper “roooooad triiiiiip!” New inspirations are always to be found and it’s even better when you get to share them with a good group of friends. So… that’s what me and the J3 crew are doing for the next few days. We’re heading out to the great blue yonder! I’d love for you to join me, so please check my twitter and instagram feeds (@happymundane) as I’ll be frequently updating whatever mischief and/or inappropriate nonsense we may get ourselves into… image by Jonathan Lo

john baldessari

Last weekend I stopped by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla, to check out the John Baldessari print retrospective. Baldessari has been a big influence on my own as a graphic designer, and it was so inspiring to check out the art close up. His most recent work takes his collages one step further by adding dimension. At first glance the pieces appear flat, but upon closer inspection, you realize they are actually composed of different layers.

Another interesting thing I didn’t know before, was that Southern California has always been his home. He studied in San Diego as well as taught here too. If you get a chance to come down to La Jolla, definitely stop by the museum. The exhibition is on through May 13th, 2012. More info here. (images via)
