arizona 2011

Hi folks! I’m back from my quick but very educational trip to Arizona. Why Arizona? I’m not really sure. I’ve been thinking a lot about “the future” lately. The “future” in both a more general sense (technology, design trends, direction, etc…) as well as on a more personal level for myself. Strangely, I have found that I’ve been drawn to ideas in “the west.” This has lead me to start exploring and visiting more desert-like regions of the US. Arizona was next up on my list!

I don’t exactly remember when, but I recall watching something on TV about a “Biosphere.” I think it was on the Discovery Channel or Travel Channel. (I don’t really talk about this on this blog much, but there is definitely a little sci-fi geek inside of me!) After a little research online, turns out the Biosphere 2 is available for tours and well, hey- I’m there! The Biosphere2 is located in between Phoenix and Tucson. I ended up visiting Tucson first, then the Biosphere2, then stayed in Scottsdale for the remainder day or so, where I also visited Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Taliesin West. All in all, the trip was incredibly enlightening and inspiring. There was good and bad and everything in between. I still need to process all the photos and info that is swelling in my head, but can’t wait to share all the amazing-ness that is to be found in the very “hot” state of Arizona. Btw, thank you so much to all of you that sent me recommendations! Great places and I ate a little tooo well! Stay tuned!

mundane aesthetic: tucson color

I’m in Arizona for a couple days.  Currently enjoying random pops of bright quirky color in Tucson.

pale wood and white

Slightly obsessing over the incredible A-frame image of Jordana Brewster’s home featured in the May 2011 InStyle magazine. I LOVE the pale wood panels and the exposed white rafters. Also hard to see in the pic, but there’s a metal hanging arm lamp in the center. Amazing.

The house is pretty swank-tastic as well! Yes please. (via InStyle, photos by Dean Kaufman)

mundane aesthetic: life and doughnuts

Ugh. So. Busy. Too much to do in very little time, plus this week is cut short for me since I have a quick trip to AZ. So, please forgive me as my postings may be a bit sporadic the next few days. In the meantime, here’s a few mundane snaps of daily life over the past few weeks. By the way, if any of you have any Phoenix/Tucson/Scottsdale recommendations, please share in the comments! I will definitely be posting this week, just not sure at what times, so please keep checking back. You can also follow my tweets or pins too!

(And yes, that would be oreo cookies on top of a glazed krispy creme AND cookies and kreme filling… omg. I die.)

orange and pink pop

Very pretty editorial in the April 2011 Elle Decoration (French). Love the little accents of bright orange and salmon-y pink! (and the small seafoam side table by the bed! ♥) photo by Yves Duronsoy

one awa soap by inframince

Oooh.. Beauty in your bath/hand soap! Very lovely minimal designed soap packets from Inframince. Designed by Ryohei Yoshiyuki, the One Awa is a thin slice of soap that is just enough to be used up in one day. Great travel idea!

tgif video break: i’m into you… chanel

Suddenly it’s Friday?! How did that happen? Sorry for the lack of posts the past two days. Been crazy swamped with work, and alas the week has flown by. Anyway, in other news, a BIG BIG thanks to Elle Decor for including one of my fav etsy picks for art and photography. Check it out here, alongside a few other awesome bloggers’ picks as well.

Being that the week is over, I’m in desperate need of mental and visual escape-, so here’s two vids to show you how I plan on spending the weekend- frolicking around Mexico and attending a glamorously fashion fab over the top dramatic party… or rather, here’s what I’ll be dreaming about as I hide in bed being lazy and putz-ing around, hehe. Oh and Happy Mother’s Day to all you gorgeous moms! Have a good one!

(btw, I am the original “J.Lo” thankyouverymuch)

pulled- a catalog of screen printing by mike perry

If you are a fan of the books “Hand Job” and “Over and Over“, you’ll be thrilled to know that Mike Perry has just released another to add to the library: Pulled: A Catalog of Screen Printing. Once again, Mike has put together an inspiring collection of pieces from over 40 amazing screen printers and artists including Deanne Cheuk, Steven Harrington, Cody Hudson, Jeremyville, Rinzen, and Andrew Holder, (just to name a few!).

I filmed a little quick “flip-through” video so you can get a taste of the awesomeness.
