diy pallet garden

I saw this on Pinterest and thought it was just genius. Fern Richardson of Life on the Balcony blog created this beautiful vertical garden using a shipping pallet. She has a complete step-by-step here. Actually her whole blog is awesome and shows tons of container garden inspiration (AND she’s a fellow OC local!). It’s a great reminder that even if you don’t have a full yard, you can still bring some green and vegetation into your home! Check it out here. (image via Life on the Balcony)

By the way, are you on Pinterest yet? It’s so addicting! You can check out and follow my pins here.

decorate

well lookee what I picked up last night while perusing through the Anthropologie store at Fashion Island? It’s the new Decorate book!

If you don’t already know, Decorate is the new book by Holly Becker, of the blog Decor8, and Joanna Copestick. First off, the book is substantial. It’s over 280+ pages!

They’ve put together a really great piece that’s meant to inspire and encourage anyone looking to take on the often daunting task of decorating. Rather than presenting straightforward house-tours or simply showing a particular style, the book is divided into several sections that guide you step by step into the process of putting together your home.

Along they way, they feature quotes from tons of design professionals, as well as incredible photos by Debi Treloar. Speaking of photos, the book lets us in on sneak peeks into the homes of  several big designers, like Jonathan Adler and Thom Filicia. I’m especially loving Jonathan Adler’s kitchen, which I hadn’t really seen before. Oh, and check out this gorgeous shot of this vase with sequins in it.

How glamorous is that?! So simple to do too!

The tone of the book is all done in a manner that isn’t intimidating, but rather quite easy, and also mindful of budgets. I really like the overall tone that you can work with what you have, no matter what aesthetic you’re drawn to, and make it into something unique and beautiful that you’ll love to live in.

On a personal side note, I’ve known Holly for what seems like blog-4-ever. We both started our blogs around the same time many moons ago and it’s so exciting to watch her grow from simple blogger to now official fabulous published author! Congrats Holly!! Decorate is released next month (only a few weeks away!) but, as you can see, you can pick it up at your local Anthropologie right now!

rad and hungry

In this day and age of email, text messaging, ipads, etc… there’s still nothing like the special feeling you get from the tangible experience of writing or drawing something on paper. With that thought, I have always loved stationery. When I was a kid, one of my favorite places to go besides the toy store, was the office supply store. I was obsessed with looking at all the different erasers, writing utensils, pads of paper, etc… Whenever I travel to a foreign country, I always bring back little pencils or pens, and I always can use a new little notebook! So, you can imagine my joy when I was introduced to this new company, RAD AND HUNGRY. Hen Chung and Sam Alston take a love for stationery and travel, and combined it into a great concept. (… the name of the company alone is pretty awesome right?!)…(much more after the jump) Read the rest of this entry »

west elm summer 2011 preview

I’m oddly on a yellow kick today… West Elm just released a sneak peek at their Summer 2011 collection, and I’m immediately drawn to these watercolor pieces.

The platter and “sunset” pillow would add a nice punch of color, and how cute are those fish plates?!

This outdoor table is pretty sweet too, but what is that cool red candle holder?! I hope it comes on their site soon! Check out the preview here.
