modern ornament adventure 2010 pt. 4

Woo hoo! It’s Christmas time! So here’s how my tree turned out this year. A fun little mix of new paper geometric shapes, combined with last year’s gray faceted sculptures, and the vintage-y gold starbursts and white spray painted ornaments that I’ve been using for the past few years… all pulled together with a quirky color palette of tones of oranges, mustard, muted pinks, and a shot of fluorescent neon yellow! mundane aesthetic: after the rain…

is a beautiful mess… whoa- what a crazy few days here in happy mundane land. Crazy non-stop rain, which is pretty unheard of here in So Cal, not only threw everyone in a wacky tizzy, but also co-incided with pre-holiday, end of the year- last minute work overload. The saying “when it rains, it pours” really had double meaning for me so far this week! Anyway- the rains are finally stopping, and J3 is closing up shop for the holidays- which leaves me time to getting back to blogging, and looking forward to the holidays. I still have the final results of my 2010 modern ornament adventure to share, as well as a few other visual goodies. Are you guys all done and ready for the holidays? Tell me I’m not the only one not finished yet! (one more shot of Pepe so not feeling all the rain after the jump…) Read the rest of this entry »

modern winter quilt inspiration

♥LOVE♥ this story in the January 2011 Martha Stewart Living. The first image (above) totally matches my scheme for this year’s tree and feels modern, warm, but still appropriate for winter. Actually everything about this shot is genius. The lamp, the rug, the faceted wood thing, obviously the color palette, and the vintage pitcher too!♥♥ Another shot after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

modern ornament adventure 2010 pt. 3

So I mentioned I wanted a hit of neon fluorescent yellow, and was trying to figure out how to incorporate that in. Recently I’ve accumulated a bunch of awesome vintage craft and decor books from used book stores. One in particular, called “Crafts Design: An Illustrated Guide by Moseley, Johnson, & Koenig (1964)” proved to be the answer: A simple paper strip ball!… Read the rest of this entry »

This “holiday sputnik mobile” that Dabito did is genius. He used a mobile originally meant for pictures/photos and swapped them out for Christmas ball ornaments! Great seasonal idea and looks super fab and festive! Check out more shots via his great blog.

modern ornament adventure 2010 pt. 2

In the previous post, I mentioned I wanted to do something geometric for the ornaments. Well, my first inclination was to make some polygons out of paper. Originally, I wanted to do them via origami. This was a great idea and all, until I actually saw how many folds and steps it would take to create just one… (video above is an example) (continued…) Read the rest of this entry »
