Viva Vera

Viva Vera

It just wouldn’t be Summer without a little Vera love. For those of you not familiar with the name, you will probably be familiar with the work. Vera Neumann was an amazing artist, designer, and business woman. Her work continues to influence designers today in fashion and interior design. She’s most noted for her bright boldly colored scarves and textiles for the home. I’m sure you’ll recognize many of the designs. Perhaps your mother or grandmother might have even had some. A couple of weeks ago, I finally had a chance to pick up the recently released Vera book, entitled “Vera- The Art and Life of an Icon“. By Susan Seid, published by Abrams. I haven’t been able to put it down. There are so many pages I’ve tabbed! (much more after the jump)

The scope of her work is amazing, and just the stories of her life and her philosophies is so inspiring. There’s so much joy and happiness that comes through in each piece.  There’s a great quote on the back of the book that says,

“Color sings to me. Color is such a marvelous way of expressing emotion. We have so many problems in this world; color just brings a little bit of joy into our lives.”- Vera Neumann.

I particularly love this image of her that shows her with a little pinwheel.

The book is just filled with amazing tidbits, sketches, photos, and basically if you love design and color- this is a MUST HAVE. I got it while perusing at Anthropologie, but you can also get it via Amazon.
